The circumstances of unveiling
There are three monuments, respectively. commemorative plaques, which were gradually built after World War I, after 1945 and after 1989. Originally, on June 18, 1922, a sculptural group “Sacrifice for the Freedom of the Fatherland” was created, which was commissioned by the Legionary Sculptor Rudolf Kabeš. It was destroyed during the Nazi occupation.
Later history
In 2015, a complete reconstruction of the monument took place, for which the town of Jindřichův Hradec received a subsidy from the Ministry of Defense of the Czech Republic. The reconstruction consisted of adjusting the staircase leading to it, cleaning the plaques, adding letters and creating an area in front of the memorial, which serves the performers during the reverent acts. The total costs of the reconstruction amounted to CZK 1,064,000, of which the subsidy was CZK 662,000.
Contemporary importance
The memorial hosts commemorative events during the anniversary days of the end of world wars, the establishment of Czechoslovakia and the Day of Victims of the Communist Regime
